Stephen Nolan: Green Leader 2020

We are delighted to announce that Stephen Nolan will receive the 2020 Green Leader award, sponsored by Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, at the Green Awards ceremony on February 25th at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, Dublin.

Stephen is the founding CEO of Sustainable Nation Ireland & currently on secondment as Managing Director of the United Nations Environment Network of Financial Centres for Sustainability.

Stephen has been at the forefront of the green and sustainable finance agenda in Ireland and internationally for the last decade.

While CEO of Sustainable Nation Ireland, working in partnership with government and industry, he worked to position Ireland as a global leader in sustainable finance. Today, at €135 billion, Ireland is number 1 in the world for the listing of green bonds.

Stephen is currently managing director of the United Nations Environment Network of Financial Centres for Sustainability based in Geneva. With 30 global financial centres as members, the initiative was founded in 2017 with the support of the Italian Presidency of the G7. Today, the network represents 80% of global equity markets.

Over his career, the highly respected Dubliner, a TCD graduate, while Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the Irish Department of Communications; Advisor to Kofi Annan’s UN technology Task Force; and founding CEO of the UN founded Global eSchools Initiative has led and delivered initiatives from start-up to scale across both public and private spheres in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.

Stephen is a member of the Steering Committee of the Sustainable & Responsible Investment Forum Ireland and the Sustainable Finance Skillnet. He is also a former stakeholder to the Network of Greening the Financial System, a grouping of 50 international central banks and an advisory member of the Climate Bonds Initiative based in London. He is also chair of Ireland’s Climate Finance Week 2020.
