US-based textile fibre specialist The Lycra Company has appointed Alistair Williamson as Vice President for Sustainability, strengthening its executive leadership as the company advances circularity commitments and responds to tightening transparency requirements across the global textile supply chain.

As reported by Fashion Network, Williamson brings cross-functional expertise developed across key markets in EMEA, North America, and South Asia. He joined Lycra's former parent company Invista in 2007, led Western Europe sales from 2013 to 2019, and subsequently served as EMEA Sales Director for innerwear before becoming Vice President for EMEA and South-East Asia.

In his new position, Williamson is tasked with embedding circularity principles into product development and innovation platforms to deliver measurable environmental outcomes, and aligning the group's strategic direction with growing eco-design expectations from brand and retail clients.

Doug Kelliher, executive vice president for Product at The Lycra Company, said: "Alistair's experience and vision will accelerate our responsible roadmap and strengthen our ability to anticipate the expectations of our customers and partners. His leadership will enable The Lycra Company to continue to offer innovative, transparent textile solutions with a positive impact for the entire industry."

The appointment accompanies a period of active sustainable product development at The Lycra Company. Its Renewable Lycra Fiber, produced with 70% plant-based content, and EcoMade recycled elastane have both been extended recently, with EcoMade now complemented by a bio-based version derived from maize.

The Lycra Company, which owns the Lycra, Coolmax, Thermolite, Elaspan, Supplex, and Tactel brands, has also initiated a financial restructuring process targeting the elimination of more than $1.2 billion (approximately €1.01 billion) in long-term debt alongside the inauguration of its largest elastane factory in China.
