Offshore wind could power Ireland’s job market and green economy

Ireland has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead in offshore wind—if it’s bold enough to act. David Brennan, Managing Director of Eastgate Engineering, says investing in the sector isn’t a cost but a catalyst for economic renewal. His company, currently assembling the world’s largest offshore wind farm at Dogger Bank, proves what's possible with the right mix of ambition, policy support and skilled labour.

The project, which will power six million homes, shows how offshore renewables can revitalise regional economies. Eastgate plans to double its workforce by year-end—drawing from a talent pool that has seamlessly transitioned from oil and gas to green energy. Brennan argues that with government backing, Ireland’s coastal regions could become hubs of long-term, sustainable employment.
