Hutch Sri Lanka has launched the country's first sustainability-centric retail spaces with the opening of two Signature outlets designed around environmental principles, the telecommunications company announced.

According to Daily Mirror Sri Lanka, the initiative represents the first instance in Sri Lanka where sustainability has been holistically integrated into retail spaces, moving beyond symbolic gestures to deliver measurable environmental and social impact. Hutch opened its first two outlets under flagship themes, with Signature+ at Colombo Fort serving the country's largest business community, and a Signature outlet in Negombo.

The outlets are constructed from sustainable materials, powered by renewable wind and solar energy, and incorporate circular economy principles into their production cycle. The spaces feature e-waste collection points encouraging the public to participate in responsible disposal of retired communication devices.

The retail locations serve beyond customer service points, functioning as education centres where visitors can experience sustainability practices firsthand through curated illustrations and facts. The approach aligns with parent company CK Hutchison Holding's commitment to responsible growth and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Saumitra Gupta, chief executive officer of Hutch, said: "Aligning with the CK Hutchison Group's sustainability journey, Hutch is redefining retail infrastructure where innovation meets social responsibility. Sustainability for us is an investment to build long-term value for Sri Lanka, for generations now and to come."

Gupta added: "This initiative delivers a unique customer experience while setting a new benchmark in taking services directly to customers as a responsible telecom operator. Eventually, demonstrating how Hutch continues to think ahead, shaping the future of connectivity."

The company stated its outlet expansion through the Signature outlets signifies commitment to long-term value creation, environmental stewardship and real-life demonstration that sets a standard for sustainable retail in Sri Lanka.
