Lynas Foodservice has invested £4.3 million in a solar, wind, and battery microgrid at its Coleraine site, enabling 75% renewable electricity across its operations. The project slashes energy costs, cuts carbon emissions, and provides energy security in an era of volatile prices.

By pairing rooftop solar panels with a 1.25MW wind turbine and on-site battery storage, the system balances supply and demand while exporting surplus power to the grid. The result is equivalent to taking 700 homes off the grid, underscoring the scale of its environmental impact.

For a business with 24/7 refrigeration needs and a footprint across Ireland and Scotland, the investment signals a strategic shift—aligning long-term sustainability goals with operational resilience and customer expectations. Backed by Bank of Ireland UK, the move demonstrates how integrating renewable infrastructure can be both a commercial and environmental win.
