Asia-Pacific is running out of time to meet its sustainable development and climate targets. With the 2030 deadline fast approaching, progress is stagnating—or worse, reversing—on critical issues like environmental protection, decent work, and education.
Only 16 of 117 measurable targets are on track, while 18 are regressing. The biggest roadblocks? Rising fossil fuel subsidies, weak climate action, and unsustainable production practices. Half the world’s emissions now come from the region, yet clean energy transitions remain slow.
There are bright spots—improvements in health, infrastructure, and poverty reduction show that change is possible with the right investments. But closing the gap will require a new level of regional cooperation and business leadership.
