Monaghan-based renewable energy company Activ8 Energies has partnered with SSE Airtricity to introduce a €200 million all-island funded solar initiative, giving Irish businesses a route to on-site solar PV installation with no upfront capital expenditure.

As reported by Think Business, under the programme Activ8 Energies and SSE Airtricity will fund, install, and maintain solar systems on behalf of participating businesses, which will purchase the electricity generated on site through long-term Power Purchase Agreements at agreed competitive rates. Contract terms range from 15 to 25 years, providing businesses with long-term energy cost predictability in a market marked by sustained price volatility.

Ciaran Marron, chief executive of Activ8 Energies, said: "Energy price instability has become a real issue for Irish businesses, and many are looking for ways to take control of a cost that can fluctuate dramatically from month to month. This funded initiative gives companies a clear path to predictable energy pricing without upfront investment."

Stephen Gallagher, managing director of SSE Airtricity, said the initiative removes the primary barrier to business decarbonisation. "This funded solar PV initiative provides price certainty for businesses while also removing the upfront cost barrier to decarbonising operations. I would really encourage businesses to avail of this opportunity," he said.

The programme is available nationwide and across the island of Ireland, with particular relevance for energy-intensive sectors including manufacturing, logistics, and large-scale commercial operations. Depending on project eligibility, installations may also qualify for support under the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland's commercial solar grant scheme.

The initiative coincides with Activ8 Energies' 20th anniversary in 2026. The company has developed a strong position in large-scale renewable energy solutions for Irish enterprises and public sector clients over two decades of operation.
