Sweden-based Nordic Climate Group has expanded its Irish operations through the acquisition of Northern Refrigeration Services, a Donegal-based specialist in refrigeration, heat pumps, and heating solutions, strengthening the group's footprint in the north-west of Ireland.
As reported by Nordic Climate Group, Northern Refrigeration Services was founded in 1965 and has been led by Gerald McGloin since 1997, building a long-established reputation for technical expertise across both commercial and domestic environments. The company serves customers spanning hotels, data centres, pubs, factories, warehouses, and residential properties, with experience across service and maintenance, large-scale project delivery, heat pump installations, and residential developments.
Ronnie Coutts, CEO of Nordic Climate Group UK and Ireland, said: "Northern Refrigeration Services has built its position over many years through technical knowledge, strong customer relationships and a clear commitment to its local market. The company brings valuable expertise in refrigeration and heat pump solutions, and its presence in Donegal gives us a stronger position in the north-west of Ireland. We also see good opportunities for collaboration with our existing operations in Ireland, where we already have a strong presence with our Anglo-Irish Refrigeration business."
Gerald McGloin, CEO of Northern Refrigeration Services, said: "Joining Nordic Climate Group gives us the opportunity to continue developing the company with the same local commitment, while becoming part of a wider group that understands specialist technical businesses like ours."
Northern Refrigeration Services will continue to operate under its existing local brand and leadership as part of Nordic Climate Group, preserving the customer relationships and community ties built over six decades of operation in Donegal and the surrounding region.
The acquisition reflects growing momentum across the heat pump and low-carbon heating sector in Ireland, where government targets for the transition away from fossil fuel heating in homes and commercial premises are driving increased demand for specialist installation and maintenance expertise. Heat pumps are central to Ireland's Climate Action Plan, which sets ambitious targets for the retrofit of existing building stock and the decarbonisation of heating across residential and commercial sectors.
Nordic Climate Group's expanding Irish portfolio positions it to capture a growing share of that market as installation volumes accelerate and demand for specialist technical support across the full lifecycle of heat pump systems continues to rise.
