Putting the limelight back to the Green Awards 2026 earlier this year, Johnson & Johnson MedTech has been named winner of the Green Manufacturer Award, recognised for a sustainability programme that has set an exceptional benchmark for green manufacturing through long-term commitment, discipline, and delivery at scale across its Limerick medical device production operations.
The award, announced on 24 February 2026 at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, reflects a sustainable business that has fully embedded sustainability into large-scale manufacturing operations, not as a corporate add-on but as a core operational strength that is measured, tracked, and improved upon with the same rigour applied to any other dimension of production excellence.
Johnson & Johnson Vision Limerick's sustainability credentials are extensive and independently verified. ISO 50001-certified energy management, 100 percent renewable electricity, and pioneering decarbonisation projects give the programme its technical foundation, while a clear Net Zero by 2045 target provides the long-term strategic direction that distinguishes genuine sustainability leadership from short-term environmental compliance. Digital innovation and electrification sit alongside these commitments, demonstrating an organisation actively pursuing the next generation of green manufacturing solutions rather than consolidating past gains.
Judges were unambiguous in their verdict. "Johnson & Johnson MedTech demonstrated how sustainability can be fully embedded into large-scale medical device production, not as an add-on, but as a core operational strength. Clear targets, robust year-on-year data, and tight integration with operational excellence showed a level of maturity rarely seen in the sector. The depth and consistency of results speak to genuine industry leadership, built over time and delivered with credibility, rigour, and impact," the panel stated.
Johnson & Johnson MedTech joins a cohort of green awards winners demonstrating that Ireland's manufacturing sector is capable of leading the transition to a low-carbon industrial future when ambition, governance, and operational discipline are aligned behind a credible and long-term sustainability strategy. The win raises the bar for what the 2027 awards cycle will expect from entrants in the Green Manufacturer category.
