Island Green Power has received planning consent from West Lindsey District Council for a hybrid 49.9MW solar and 500MW battery energy storage system at Grange Farm, Stallingborough, Lincolnshire. The project is the latest addition to Island Green Power's 15GW-plus UK pipeline as the company transitions from developer to independent power producer.
Island Green Power (IGP) is a London-headquartered utility-scale solar and BESS developer, established in 2013 and wholly owned by Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) since May 2025, following MAM's acquisition of 50% in 2022. In July 2026, IGP closed a £315 million HoldCo debt financing to support its IPP transition. IGP has delivered almost 40 solar projects generating more than 3GW of capacity, with 21 in the UK including NSIPs such as the 600MW Cottam Solar Farm and 480MW West Burton Solar Farm.
The structural driver is the co-location of solar and BESS becoming the dominant UK project configuration. Stallingborough's 500MW BESS paired with 49.9MW of solar, a 10:1 storage-to-generation ratio, reflects the market's shift toward BESS-led projects using solar co-location primarily for grid connection optimisation rather than as the primary revenue driver.
At 500MW, the Grange Farm BESS sits in the upper tier of UK standalone BESS projects; the 49.9MW solar capacity keeps the solar element below the 50MW EI Act threshold, retaining local planning authority jurisdiction and accelerating the planning timeline relative to an NSIP route.
The transition from developer to IPP that IGP is executing under MAM ownership is the commercially significant structural change. The £315 million HoldCo debt financing funds the balance sheet required to own and operate assets rather than develop and sell them, which is where value creation shifts as the UK grid increasingly prices long-duration storage capability.
For the sector, the Grange Farm approval is a template for hybrid solar-BESS projects advancing through Ireland's own planning system, where EirGrid's SNSP target of 95% by 2030 creates comparable structural demand for co-located storage.
